We attended the FDIC’s Los Angeles Alliance for Economic Inclusion (AEI) tri-annual forum. After another successful VITA season, RBB HELD THE#1 SPOT, among the Los Angeles AEI organizations, for the highest number of Tax preparers at a mighty 67!

Field Trip/Shark Tank Activity
Royal Business Bank hosted a field trip for a group of students from Little Tokyo Service Center at our Downtown LA Office. Students were able to learn about various aspects of banking such as Credit, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), and Human Resources (HR). Students came up with a product and had to develop a logo, business plan, and marketing strategy. They then had to present their idea in front of a panel of judges who gave them feedback.

During this Holiday Season, RBB sponsored 5 low-income families by providing gift cards to each family! IDEAL CDC works very closely with families in the community and with their help, we were able to bless these 5 families with some joy this Christmas.

They then had to present their idea in front of four judges who gave them feedback.

Thanksgiving Food Drive
In partnership with IDEAL CDC, RBB hosted a food drive to help feed low-income families and provide them with a Thanksgiving meal this Holiday season. We were able to prepare upwards of 150 Food Bags for families in need from all the employees donation!

LA Saves Tabling Event
America Saves, a campaign managed by the nonprofit Consumer Federation of America, motivates, encourages, and supports low-to-moderate-income households to save money, reduce debt, and build wealth. Cash Management and CRA team volunteered at the Echo Park Library in Los Angeles for LA Saves and educated individuals on the importance of saving money.

API SBC Small Business Awards
The CRA team joined API SBC's 2nd Annual API SBC Small Business Awards for an evening dedicated to celebrating and honoring entrepreneurs who have demonstrated invocation through traditions.
The mission of the API SBC is to assist the development of small and micro businesses in Los Angeles with a particular focus on the Chinese, Filipino, Khmer, Korean, Japanese, Persian and Thai business communities, especially those of low-income immigrants.

Financial Literacy Workshop
The CRA team helped deliver a workshop on Financial Resources and budgeting to the members of the Family Resource Center in Palmdale. The Family Resource Center provides mental health services, tutoring, educational classes, and a food bank. Sycamores provides a variety of life-changing programs and services across a network of 11 locations and their surrounding communities.
Kherut
Laptop Donation
Royal Business Bank is pleased to have donated 11 laptops and chargers to the women of Kherut’s Santa Ana College Program. This program helps disadvantaged women gain knowledge and skills for a better life. Kherut is a non-profit empowering women survivors of sex trafficking, domestic violence, sexual abuse, imprisonment, and young women aging out of foster care, in a safe and supportive environment.

Financial Literacy Workshop
In partnership with Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada, AVP/Assistant Branch Manager in Spring Mountain delivered a financial literacy workshop to the women of The Shade Tree. She delivered the workshop on Financial Products, Services, and Providers. The Shade Tree is a shelter which offers services to victims escaping the cycle of abuse, homelessness, or violence.

Home is Where the Heart is Gala
Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada had their Home is Where the Heart is Gala and the Spring Mountain Branch team and Chairwoman were in attendance! Funds collected from this night will help to develop and construct affordable housing for LMI families, seniors, and veterans.

Financial Education Workshops
IDEAL CDC hosted over 50 children aged 6-13 for a summer camp where they participated in group activities. The RBB Interns assisted with preparing and giving out back-to-school backpacks to children as they get ready for school. Along with school supplies, we provided Money Smart worksheets to the students on Budgeting, determining Needs and Wants, and Saving Tips.

Financial Education Workshops
EVP/Chief Operations Officer used his career expertise to provide workshops on Banking 101 and Career advice. He went over the different types of banks, what they do, different departments in a bank, and common misconceptions. He also went over helpful tips and skills for a successful career.
FVP/Deputy BSA Officer provided an informative workshop on Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and the role financial institutions play in relation to these acts. He talked about Money Laundering and its impact to society. He also touched on Crypto and Fintech.
FVP/Cash Management Manager helped deliver two workshops to our interns on Using Credit Cards and Credit Scores and Credit Reports. He went over what credit cards are, how they work, and things to look for when determining which is the best card for their needs. The other workshop focused on the significance of credit reports and credit scores.
FVP/SBA Team Lead helped provide a workshop on SBA Loan programs and their benefits. He went over eligibility requirements, how to obtain an SBA loan, and provided resources to the interns for reference.
Central City Neighborhood Partners
Food Security Program
The RBB Interns and CRA Team volunteered with our community partners, Central City Neighborhood Partners (CCNP), to assist with their Food Security Program and Clothing Distribution Program in preparing packages to be given out. The CCNP Food Security Program works to provide fresh and nutritious food to households experiencing food insecurity through a weekly grocery distribution. Clothing items are packed together and distributed to those in need as well.

Summer Interns
We are thrilled to continue with Royal Business Bank’s Summer Internship and Scholarship Program for incoming college freshmen. During their 5-weekinternship at the Downtown LA Office, they will learn about the various functions of the bank and will gain a better understanding of what a career in banking looks like. They will participate in community activities with some of our partners for volunteerism. We also have many great workshops prepared for them on topics related to finance and college/career preparation. Interns have been selected to work in the following departments: CRA, IT, Mortgage, and SBA.

We attended the Dollars for scholars in-person ceremony for students in the L.A. Cash for college program. The event recognized local high school/college students and celebrated their journeys as they take important steps to advance their education and careers. This year, L.A Cash for college is awarding $30,000 in scholarships to program participants.

Building Your Wealth for Tomorrow Symposium & Expo
The Los Angeles South Hope Foundation held their "Building Your Wealth for Tomorrow Symposium & Expo" on April 18th at the Earvin Magic Johnson Park in South LA for community members. As well as providing information for products and services to small business owners, there were many great panels offering information on a variety of financial literacy topics. Our director of Community Development and Community Reinvestment Act spoke on the Access to Capital panel for Small Business.

Mock Interviews
In partnership with Unite LA, the CRA team participated in Mock interviews with Esteban Torres High School to help with the Work Readiness Program. A total of 80 students were interviewed and provided with resume building!

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
RBB volunteers helped countless families and individuals file their taxes free of charge and helped many of those families receive a tax refund. As the VITA tax season has ended, we are happy to report that RBB volunteers completed a total of 1,582 tax files! This year we were able to partner with a whopping 17 community partners to help provide tax assistance.

In partnership with Chicago Scholars, the CRA team prepared and conducted a workshop highlighting some important topics surrounding income taxes for the upcoming Tax Season!

Bellflower High School Financial Literacy Series
In partnership with IDEAL CDC, we participated in IDEAL's High School Financial Literacy Series. This 6-week series is aimed to empower the next generation with skills and knowledge they need to make smart financial decisions. This series has been focusing on guiding students towards a secure financial future by exploring diverse career paths, learn about investments, understanding homeownership and the renting process. We delivered workshops on How to Start a Business. For the final week of this financial literacy series, students worked in groups to create their own small business. They then pitched their business ideas to a panel of judges in hopes of getting “funding” for their product or service.

In partnership with Youth Business Alliance, Royal Business Bank will be hosting 5 students from BRIO High School for a Work-Based Learning Activity. The purpose of this activity is to teach the children about Business and the workforce. Every Friday these students will participate in activities and workshops that teach them how to create and grow their business. The BRIO HS students continued with their business building lessons with the help of some workshops conducted by the RBB team. Students learned about conducting market research, presentation skills, hiring and building a team, the financial component of owning a business, creating a portfolio, and information on Small Business loans.
At the end of the Work Based Learning activity, students applied what they learned during the workshops on small business, learning how to start and maintain them, and other important financial topics they will use in their everyday life. Each student came up with a business idea and presented it to the Shark Tank Judges!
Boys & Girls Club of Greater Ventura
Youth of the Year Awards
In partnership with Boys and Girls Club of Greater Ventura, the CRA team served as student coaches for youth of the Boys and Girls Club in Greater Ventura. For 9 weeks, coaches guided students in creating a well structured speech highlighting the many great accomplishments each student has achieved and hope to achieve. The objective is to select the Youth of the Year who best embodies the qualities of leadership and service, academic excellence and living a healthy lifestyle, and who can speak to the impact that their club or Youth Center has made in their life.

SoCal Celebrates Entrepreneurship
In partnership with CSUF’s Center for Financial Entrepreneurship, Royal Business Bank provided funding to support small businesses that have gone through the Center for Entrepreneurship’s program. The SoCal Celebrates Entrepreneurship event is an annual conference that gather some of the many innovative and great minds in Southern California. Entrepreneurs, business leaders, investors, exhibitors, schools and students join to celebrate the regions diverse entrepreneurial spirit, fostering upward mobility and a thriving quality of life.

Work-Based Learning Activity
In partnership with Youth Business Alliance, Royal Business Bank will be hosting 5 students from BRIO High School for a Work-Based Learning Activity. The purpose of this activity is to teach the children about Business and the workforce. Every Friday these students will participate in activities and workshops that teach them how to create and grow their business.
On their first visit at the Downtown LA Office, the students were exposed to some of the many departments in banking and were able to hear some team members speak about their roles and responsibilities in the bank. The students also engaged in Q&A with the speakers afterwards. Students also participated in a workshop led by Treasury Management Manager on creating a Business Plan. Students were able to learn about some of the myths and realities of small business ownership while receiving information on how to create your own business and action items for starting your business.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
Royal Business Bank will continue to participate in VITA to provide free tax preparation for low to moderate income individuals and families. We are happy to announce that RBB has increased the number of 2024 VITA Partners with 16 (!) We have volunteers throughout most of our regions including California, Chicago, New York, New Jersey, and Hawaii for a total of 67 certified VITA volunteers!

Several bank employees kicked off the year by participating in JA Finance Park to help students navigate the world of personal finances as they assume the role of “adult for the day”. Volunteers mentored groups of students throughout the day and helped them create a monthly budget while making decisions regarding housing, transportation, insurance, savings, entertainment expenses, etc.

Health and Wellness Summit
The CRA Team attended the Health and Wellness Summit hosted by the LA South Hope Foundation. Watts Healthcare led the discussion which included topics on community resources, collaboration efforts, and future park and recreation events for youth in the area.
